BrainPOP ESL is one of products from BrainPOP.com. BrainPOP.com is an educational
websites with over 1.000 short animated movies for students in grades K-12
(ages 6 to 17), the website contain of some quizzes, information and related
materials which cover the subjects of science, social studies, English,
mathematics, engineering and technology, health, and arts and music. Products
of BrainPop.com such as BrainPop Jr. for younger children (grades K-3),
BrainPop EspaƱol, BrainPop FranƧais, BrainPop UK, BrainPop ESL for non-native
speakers learning English, BrainPop Educators, a free site for teachers, and
MyBrainPop, a tool for students and teachers to record learning
accomplishments. BrainPOP is a paid subscription site, but there are some free
content available to anyone, such as games and some videos.
BrainPOP ESL is an interactive website for teaching or learning English
language. It is created by Naomi Prawer Kadar, Ph.D. (1949-2010), she is a
dedicated language teacher who received her certification in ESL from the
Hebrew University in 1973, and she got her Ph.D. in Yiddish Children’s
Literature from Columbia University in Columbia University in 2007.
BrainPOP ESL focuses on English grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation,
reading comprehension, and writing skills. There are three level-appropriate
lessons. Each lesson consist of an animated, three part movie that composed a
story, new vocabulary building, and grammar. The BrainPOP ESL’s approach is the
recognition of the needs of the language learner. BrainPOP ESL makes a
comprehensive language-learning program in language skills such as listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing the building blocks of
language.
Everyone who wants to learn English language can access the BrainPOP ESL.
A teacher in a classroom can use the BrainPOP ESL in the classroom for her/his
students, it can be an interactive media in learning English language. Then,
language learners can use the BrainPOP ESL by themselves after-school, so they
can try and work independently at home.
In BrainPOP ESL we
can find some characters such as
Ben is the main
character in the BrainPOP.com, he is a boy who often talks in the movies, and
he also understands what Moby says.
Moby is also the
main character in the BrainPOP.com, he is an orange robot that makes friend with Ben. He communicates in beeping noises, and Ben usually translate what is he

There are three levels in the BrainPOP ESL. Each level is divided into six
units, and each units contain of five lessons, four presenting new material,
and one review lesson, it’s called Flashback. And, in BrainPOP contains of some
features or tools in each lesson. It makes the students learn English language and have
fun.
Level 1 is an easy level, you can start first lesson by clicking unit 1, then you will watch the movie about Hi, I'm Ben; It isn't a flower; Who is a Magician; Under The Big Desk; Run! Don't Stop! Then after you watch the movie one by one, you can start to learn the material by clicking some features and tools provided in BrainPOP ESL.

Level 2 contains of some videos, such as Take Up Hobby; Where Do These Go?; Monster Scare Me!; Can It Feed Itself!; Old Dog New Tricks. After you watch the movies you can start the lesson by clicking the features like you have done in the first level
Level 3 contains of some videos, such as Biking is a Workout; Let's Go Rowing; A High Probability; Talent Show; Thanks For Nothing. After you
watch the movies you can start the lesson by clicking the features like
you have done in the first and second level.The features that you can click to start learning the lessons from each level:
Explaining about the grammar in the lesson.
Explaining about the new vocabulary.
Explain the alphabet and basic reading skills. In the
first units, there is Words You Know,
it is unit for practice the sounds and letters explained in the lesson, Words For Practice unit contains and
uses words letters from the previous lessons.
Give instruction and practice writing the letters and
words that has been introduced in Read
It!
Make the students to pronoun the words and movie from the movie.
A fun game which can be played by the students.
The exercise which can be done by the students to review what they have learnt before.
A quiz for students to review how much they get the lesson.

1. Word Lists supply
a list of words used in BrainPOP ESL, it contains of:
a. The Alphabetic List, list of words
explained from the presentation of new grammar in BrainPOP ESL. It makes
students find the new vocabulary words.
b. The Unit Lists, list of twelve new
vocabulary words from the original movie. It helps the students know the
specific vocabulary in the movie.
c. Appendix, list of vocabulary such as
Calendar, Food, Numbers, Colors, Irregular Verbs, Family Members,
Nationalities.

shows an overview of all content in BrainPOP ESL. It also contains of:
a. The Unit Lists, it summarizes the
lesson in each units of level.
b. The Alphabetic List, it contains the
list of grammar subject alphabetically.
3. Teaching Tools contains
of:
a. Lesson Overview, Overview the lesson
from each level, it is provided lesson plan, material provided, and time in pdf
form, so it can downloaded.
b. Know More! It teaches the grammar from
each lesson.
c. Extra Practice is additional practice
or game that can be done by the students.
